Edward J. Hippen
(February 2, 1928 - February 22, 2005)
Edward J. Hippen was born February 2, 1928, in Marion, SD, to John and Lena Witte. Following his graduation from Sioux Falls Washington High School, he began working for Metz Baking Company. In 1950, Ed enlisted in the US Army and served during the Korean War. Following his military discharge, he returned to Metz Baking Co. Ed worked in a multitude of positions at Metz and was primarily a checker.
He married Sharon Noteboom on December 30, 1968, in Sioux Falls. On May 20, 1988, he retired from Metz after 42 loyal years with the Company. Shortly after his retirement, Shari was diagnosed with brain cancer. Lovingly, Ed cared for Shari until she passed away on March 30, 1995.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the American Legion, and a lifetime member of the Elks Club.
Ed was outgoing and a friend to many. He enjoyed trips to Canada for fishing and hunting for pheasants, geese and ducks. He cherished time with his grandchildren and also liked getting together with his friends to play cards at the Elks Club. In his free time, Ed liked working out in the yard and gardening. He particularly enjoyed growing tomatoes. Remembered for his outgoing spirit, Ed will be missed by all that knew him.
